ABSTRACT:

The relation between addiction and assertiveness is established well by it in the literature on the topic. In this respect, it has thought that the addicts present deficits in the continuum Aggressiveness – Passiveness that defines the Assertiveness construct in opinion of Hasselt et Goes to. (1993). We understand for Assertiveness a personal skill that us makes possible the suitable expression of our opinions and feelings and that, as emotional competition, represents a key of optimization of our resources of intra personal emotional intelligence, such as the capacity of autonomy and independence of criterion, the emotional auto management and the control of impulses. AIM: The aim of this study is to analyze this relation and to explore the differential profiles depending on a double criterion: so much the relative one to the type of dependence (both chemical and affective) as for kind. METHOD: There has selected a sample of 328 patients in treatment in Fundación Instituto Spiral (199 males and 129 women), between. them 24,4 alcoholic %, 18,9 % cocaine addicts and alcoholic, 11 % cocaine addicts and addicted to opiates, etc., and by it clinical specific interest for the investigative interests there have been selected 3,0 % of dependent affective patients diagnosed by means of the Inventory of Interpersonal Relations and Sentimental Dependences I.R.I.D.S-100 of Sirvent and Moral (2007). There has been applied to all of them the Inventory of Assertiveness of Rathus (1973) (Carrobles, 1979, Castilian version). RESULTS: Has been confirmed the existence of significant differences (p <, 05) for kind, centering in the subscales Defense of interests, Avoidance of personal clashes and Public Manifestation of opinions, to the effect that the addicted women prove to be less assertive than the men. Likewise, the severe deficits have been confirmed in assertiveness in the dependent affective patients. CONCLUSIONS: One abounds in the need to contribute psychosocial training in assertiveness in the addicts as psycho therapeutic resource.
